Lead culturally responsive academic support that strengthens Indigenous student success at Western.

The Opportunity
The Academic Literacy and Learning Advisor plays a key role in enhancing academic success for Indigenous students at Western Sydney University. Based within the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education, this role leads the coordination and delivery of Badanami’s Tutoring for Success (TFS) Program, ensuring culturally safe, high-quality academic support that builds students’ confidence, capability and independence as learners.

The role is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the TFS Program, including overseeing tutoring services, matching tutors to students, and ensuring program activities operate effectively and efficiently. A strong focus is placed on the ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of program outcomes, processes and strategies to support Indigenous student progression and success.

Working closely with colleagues within Badanami and a broad range of stakeholders across the University, including academic staff, this position contributes to embedding effective academic literacy practices that strengthen Indigenous students’ learning capacity and ability to self-manage and self-inform throughout their studies.

What Success Looks Like

  • Coordinating the day-to-day delivery of the Tutoring for Success Program.
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating academic literacy programs and resources.
  • Building strong partnerships with academic staff to improve learning outcomes.
  • Using data and feedback to drive continuous program improvement.
  • Contributing to University-wide Indigenous education initiatives.

About You

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (genuine occupational qualification).
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in education or learning support.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering academic literacy programs for diverse cohorts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Current NSW Working With Children Check and willingness to work across campuses.
