About Carers NT

Carers NT is a not-for-profit community-based organisation and charity dedicated to improving the lives of family carers living in the NT.

We are recruiting for the newly established role of Senior Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement Advisor. This position will play a key role in strengthening relationships with First Nations communities and ensuring culturally appropriate engagement across all areas of our work.

The role operates across all service streams — including aged care, dementia support, carer support, respite, and NDIS — providing a unified, culturally grounded approach to how Carers NT delivers and connects its services.In addition, this role has a strategic business development focus, identifying and advancing partnership and funding opportunities that support both commercial sustainability and positive social impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver community engagement sessions and information sessions that increase awareness about Aboriginal Carers and supports available
  • Collaborate with team members to create accessible and culturally appropriate communications for Aboriginal Carers and stakeholders
  • Build and strengthen respectful partnerships with Aboriginal communities and organisations
  • Share knowledge about Carers SA supports and services
  • Help more Aboriginal people who care for family or community to recognise themselves as Carers and feel confident connecting with Carers SA
  • Attend events, yarn with community groups, and raise awareness about Aboriginal Carers and supports available
  • Support and grow the First Nations Carer Panel, helping to amplify the voice of Aboriginal Carers

What we are looking for?

The successful candidate will be switched on and able to jump right in. There is a significant amount of interaction with key stakeholders across the business, so strong and clear communication is a must. Other key requirements for the successful individual include

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (strongly encouraged to apply).
  • Lived experience in or strong connection to NT Aboriginal communities, particularly in the Top End or Arnhem Land regions.
  • Tertiary qualifications in community development, health, social work, public policy, business, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within or alongside ACCHOs, Land Councils, or community-controlled organisations.
  • Understanding of the Aged Care Act 2024 reforms and their implications for First Nations communities.
  • Familiarity with relevant NT and Commonwealth funding frameworks, including IAS, NIAA, and health and disability grants.
  • A current driver’s license, DHS Working with Children Check, and National Police Check
