Summary:

The Rockhampton First Nations Community Officer plays a vital role in supporting and empowering First Nations communities in Rockhampton, Queensland. This position focuses on fostering relationships, facilitating community engagement, and delivering social care initiatives that enhance the wellbeing and cultural identity of the community. The Community Officer will work collaboratively with local organisations and stakeholders to ensure that the needs and aspirations of First Nations peoples are met effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to promote participation and collaboration among First Nations peoples.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and events that support cultural awareness and community development.
  • Provide support and guidance to individuals and families in accessing social care services and resources.
  • Collaborate with local organisations, government agencies, and community groups to advocate for the needs of First Nations communities.
  • Monitor and evaluate community programs to assess their effectiveness and impact.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to communicate progress and outcomes to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant qualification in social care, community development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities or in a social care environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust within the community.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural, social, and economic issues affecting First Nations peoples.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks effectively.
