    Michif Teacher: First Nations, Inuit and M�tis Education 


    Saskatoon Public Schools requires a Michif Teacher:  effective school opening for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time position for a one-year term.
     
    The successful candidate will:

    • Provide leadership in supporting the implementation of provincial curricula with an emphasis on Michif (Heritage)language, M�tis/Michif content, perspectives, and ways of knowing.
    • Develop, adapt, and deliver Michif (Heritage) language learning opportunities, resources, and lesson plans for students and staff.
    • Support the implementation of culturally responsive teaching and learning practices through Michif language instruction and resources.
    • Facilitate, support, and lead professional learning initiatives related to Michif language, M�tis content, perspectives, ways of knowing, and culturally responsive educational practices.
    • Provide consultation and direct support to teachers to strengthen instructional practices related to Michif (Heritage)language and M�tis education.
    • Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary team to advance professional learning and cultural responsiveness across the division.
    • Share knowledge and expertise in Michif language to support the goals of Saskatoon Public Schools' Indigenous Education Strategic Plan.
    • Collaborate with Michif speakers, community and educational partners to support Michif (Heritage) language revitalization and M�tis education initiatives.
    • Engage with M�tis/Michif communities, Michif Speakers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and educational partners to support authentic and respectful learning opportunities.

     
    The successful candidate will have:

    • A Bachelor of Education degree.
    • A valid Saskatchewan "Professional A" Teacher's Certificate.
    • Successful classroom teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated skills in speaking and understanding the Michif (Heritage) language, with a commitment to further developing language proficiency.
    • A comprehensive understanding of M�tis/Michif content, perspectives, histories, cultures, and ways of knowing.
    • A comprehensive understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action.
    • Strong knowledge of Saskatchewan curricula and effective instructional practices.
    • Demonstrated commitment to creating culturally responsive learning environments.
    • Experience supporting professional learning processes that improve student outcomes.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, community members, and educational partners.
    • Willingness and ability to engage community and educational partners in support of M�tis/Michif cultural education and Michif(Heritage) language revitalization.
