About Tū Manawa Ora

Tū Manawa Ora is a group of AOD recovery and reintegration support services delivered by Purapura Whetū in partnership with Odyssey House Christchurch and Christchurch City Mission for Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections).

Working as Mātanga Māori with Purapura Whetū, in our Aftercare Residential Services Team, you will join a team of clinical, peer support and housing & employment case workers, providing holistic supports for those navigating recovery and reintegration into community in our Tū Manawa Ora partnership services group. Tangata Whaiora from our Men’s or Women’s Residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services will be supported to access Āo Māori Models of Care and specialist Mātauranga Māori skills through your mahi. You will be primarily based in the community at our Purapura Whetū Ferry Rd site, but with some pre-engagement with tangata whaiora in our Residential Services at Greers Rd and in North Canterbury.

In this role, you will be:

• Supporting whaiora to access Āo Māori Models of Care and specialist Mātauranga Māori skills (eg. Raranga, Mau Rakau, Kapahaka, Rongoaa Māori, Whakairo, Whakapapa research etc).
• Able to facilitate a programme / sessions within your area/s of specialisation with tangata whaiora who have varying levels of knowledge, understanding and ability in Te Ao Māori.
• Practicing in a mana-enhancing, culturally sustaining, safe and trauma-informed way
• Connecting tangata whaiora with other supports within the team

To be successful in this role, you will

• Have completed at least 5 years of practice in an area of Mātauranga Māori specialisation.
• Have a Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing or equivalent (or on a pathway)
• Have experience and knowledge in working alongside tangata whaiora with offending, AOD mental health and / or trauma challenges
• Have good data and organisational skills
• Be a strong team player and communicator
• Have a good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori / te reo
• Have a non-judgmental approach to working with tangata whaiora.
