Mana Whakatipu Reintegration Service - a new path, a new life, and growth beyond the gate.
Mana Whakatipu delivers reintergration supports that start in prison and continue in the community upon release for those who have served short sentences of imprisonment (less than two years) or after being on remand. We focus on tangata whaiora assessed as medium to high risk of reoffending, including those presenting with multiple and complex reintergration needs.
Mana Whakatipu is a collective that brings together the strengths of Purapura Whetu, Odyssey House Christchruch and Christchurch City Mission working together in kotahitanga with a 'one team' approach, we deliver holistic reintergration supports that are trauma and healing informed, whanau-centred and culutrally sustaining. This role is employed by Purapura Whetu Trust.
The Kaitautoko Matanga Maori Community Support Worker plays a key role in supporting tangata whaiora clients to achieve their goals by addressing barriers, fostering connections and enhancing access to community and organisational services, through applying specialist cultural skills in Matauranga Maori.
Description
What you will do:
Provide case management support to tangata whaiora and their whānau that is grounded in Mātauranga Māori tikanga, practice, Uara and Te Reo to support sustainable reintegration into community, with a strong focus on Hauora, recovery and positive social connections.
Deliver a service grounded in the Mātauranga Māori world view of Hauora honouring Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Te Āo Māori ways of being and Tino Rangatiratanga.
Provide Mātauranga Māori practice advice within the scope of their particular specialisation as Kaitautoko Mātanga Māori in the co-design, delivery and ongoing development of the Mana Whakatipu service.
Work collaboratively within the Mana Whakatipu team to collectively advise on, plan, and continuously review Mātauranga Māori practice and service delivery, centring the specific needs of tangata whaiora and their whānau in their achievement of hauora.
Skills And Experiences
What you will bring:
Strong knowledge in an area(s) of Mātauranga Māori specialisation i.e. Whakairo, Raranga, Mau Rakau, Kapahaka, Rongoā, Whakapapa research, Tikanga, Karakia, Waiata etc
Knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga.
Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its practical application within the context of this role.
Qualification in Community Support Work or equivalent or working towards one.
Ability to facilitate programmes and manage individual casework with Whaiora who have varying levels of knowledge, understanding and ability in Te Ao Māori.
Well-developed relationships with Mana Whenua, Ngā Maata Waka and Māori community groups and organisations.
Connection to a range of community and Government Department networks.
Ability to work with situations of conflict and crisis.
Good verbal and written communication skills, organisational and time management skills, computer literacy.
Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
Effective time management skills.
Ability and flexibility to contribute to a dynamic working environment.
Awareness of cultural diversity and perspectives.
Hold a full driver’s license and ability to pass a Police and Vulnerable Children’s check – criminal convictions are not a barrier to employment depending on type and recency.
The hours of work are Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5.00pm and an after-hours component:
This role will involve rostered afterhours/ weekend work for one week every two months or one a 1 in 8 week roster. The rostered Afterhours will include on-call phone text or email support weekday evenings and one weekend every two months. This will be remunerated by way of two rostered days off following an on call weekend and on call allowance.
