Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. About the Role:

• full-time, 37.5 hours per week
• fixed-term to 30 June 2027
• $87,672 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with17.5% leave loading on annual leave days) and two wellness days per annum.

As the First Nations Wellbeing and Engagement Officer, you will play a key role in improving access, inclusion, and wellbeing outcomes for First Nations carers.

You will build strong partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to reduce barriers to accessing the Carer Gateway, promote services within Aboriginal communities, and support carers through the Carer Support Planning process.

Strong organisational, communication and time management skills are essential to effectively balance community outreach and case coordination with administrative responsibilities.

The role may involve engaging in challenging conversations, requiring strong communication skills, cultural awareness, empathy, and resilience.

You will also contribute to Carers WA’s Community and Cultural Working Group, helping to guide culturally informed engagement and service delivery across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with carers, ACCOs, community members, Traditional Owners and Elders
• Promote the Carer Gateway and raise awareness of available services, programs, and supports.
• Deliver a culturally safe, carer-centred service that values consultation and participation.
• Conduct Carer Star planning conversations with carers via phone and face-to-face, identifying goals, assessing support needs, and coordinating referrals aligned with individual Carer Plans.
• Maintain accurate case notes, records, referrals, and reporting requirements using organisational systems and software.

Essential Selection Criteria:

1. Experience building partnerships and working with First Nations communities to minimise barriers to First Nations people accessing community services.
2. Experience working directly with clients including completing intake, planning, support and referral processes for clients within an area of carer support including health, aged care, disability, or mental health.
3. Proven competence with person-centred practice supporting individuals to increase independence, participation and wellbeing.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing First Nations communities to access support services.
5. Willingness to work flexibly, including active participation in change management.
6. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in a community service or health-based context.
7. High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
8. Current C class drivers licence as well as National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
