Associate Director
First Nations Expenditure and Outcomes
Your day as an Associate Director
At NSW Treasury, we recognise our responsibility to share power, elevate First Nations voices, and embed self‑determination at the heart of policy and investment decisions. Guided by the principles of Closing the Gap, our focus is on enabling real and lasting change—change that honours the rights, aspirations and leadership of First Nations communities, and is shaped with communities, not for them
We are dedicated to building cultural capability across the organisation and the wider NSW Government sector, strengthening relationships founded on trust, respect and accountability. This is not about compliance—it is about creating a genuinely inclusive, transparent and culturally safe organisation that actively advances reconciliation and delivers better outcomes for First Nations peoples, now and into the future - https://youtu.be/GXUmDipIC5o?si=LipLy6cFVfebuBjf
As an Associate Director in the First Nations Expenditure & Outcomes Branch, you will play a pivotal role in shaping strategies, frameworks and reforms that strengthen outcomes for First Nations peoples and communities across New South Wales. Working at the centre of government, you will lead the design and implementation of a First Nations budget model that sets clear, sector‑wide expectations for how investment, decision‑making and policy advice deliver meaningful change. This work is central to Treasury’s commitments under Closing the Gap and focuses on identifying “what works” to inform better policy and public investment decisions across NSW Government.
Success in this role relies on strong, respectful and collaborative partnerships. You will build trust‑based relationships with First Nations communities, organisations and representative bodies, while supporting teams across Treasury and government to build their cultural capability and confidence to work effectively in this space. The role requires a high level of First Nations cultural capability, a deep understanding of the First Nations policy landscape, and the ability to lead and influence in complex, culturally sensitive environments. Working closely with the Director, you will also contribute to leading a diverse, high‑performing team, fostering a culturally safe, inclusive and supportive culture that builds capability and develops future leaders.
Our Commitment to First Nations people and communities in New South Wales

This commitment is reflected in Treasury’s ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan, which outlines our reconciliation journey so far and how we will continue on that journey in partnership with First Nations people and staff members.
