We are seeking a passionate and community-focused Aboriginal Disability Liaison Officer to join our team in a full-time capacity. This identified position plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to access culturally safe, inclusive, and person-centred supports, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
As a trusted community connector, you will work alongside participants, families, Elders, service providers, and community organisations to advocate for improved outcomes and strengthen access to disability services.
About the Role
The Aboriginal Disability Liaison Officer acts as a cultural and community bridge between Aboriginal participants, families, communities, and disability support services. The position provides advocacy, information, and practical assistance while helping to ensure services are culturally responsive and accessible.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a cultural and community liaison between Aboriginal participants, families, communities, and disability service providers.
- Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to access and navigate the NDIS and other relevant services.
- Advocate on behalf of individuals and families to promote culturally safe and inclusive service delivery.
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and local organisations.
- Promote awareness of disability supports, rights, and entitlements within Aboriginal communities.
- Provide cultural advice and guidance to staff and support the organisation in building cultural competence.
- Assist participants to develop service agreements, connect with providers, and coordinate supports as required.
- Collaborate with Support Coordinators, Plan Managers, and other agencies to deliver holistic and person-centred support.
- Maintain accurate records and case notes in accordance with privacy, NDIS, and organisational requirements.
- Participate in community engagement activities, events, and health promotion initiatives.
About You
Essential Criteria
- Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. This is an identified position under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems, and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly those living with disability.
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities in a culturally safe and respectful manner.
- Understanding of the NDIS, disability supports, or community services sector.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently with flexibility, initiative, and cultural sensitivity.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain.
This is an Identified role under the Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.

Remuneration: $35.00 per hour dependent on skills and quals
You will be required to undertake and pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, pre-employment wellness check (including drug and alcohol screening) and obtain an NSW Working with Children Check.
