About the role

We are seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Senior Advisor to lead and strengthen culturally safe practice across the organisation.

This role focuses on strategic advice, cultural leadership and organisation-wide influence, shaping frameworks, policies and approaches that improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It comes at an important point in the College’s reconciliation journey and will help support the next phase of RAP implementation.

You will work at both a strategic and operational level, providing expert guidance and driving the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Naarm/Melbourne Head Office is the preferred location, reflecting the relationship-based nature of the role and hybrid working model. We are also open to candidates based in NSW (Gadigal land), WA (Whadjuk Noongar Country), or Meanjin/Brisbane. This role is not suited to fully remote work.

This is a prioritised role for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, who will be given priority consideration as per the special provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

What you’ll be doing

• Providing expert cultural advice to support planning, programs and organisational initiatives
• Embedding culturally safe practices across policies, frameworks and ways of working
• Leading and supporting the delivery and ongoing implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
• Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outcomes and progress
• Building relationships with communities and stakeholders
• Contributing to staff capability uplift through training, guidance and awareness initiatives

What you’ll bring

• Experience in health, policy, community or related sectors
• Strong project or program management experience
• Deep knowledge of culturally safe practice and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Strong understanding of factors influencing First Nations health outcomes
• Experience providing strategic advice or working in advisory roles
• Strong communication and influencing skills
• Commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
