Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is seeking a SAHA Project Coordinator to lead the delivery of the Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessments (SAHA) Program within our Cultural Heritage Unit.

This is a unique opportunity to work directly with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, government agencies, developers, and land use planners to ensure Aboriginal Cultural Heritage is considered early in strategic planning and development across Wadawurrung Country.

About the Role The Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessments (SAHA) Program brings Aboriginal Cultural Heritage considerations into the earliest stages of land use planning and project development.

By facilitating proactive conversations between Traditional Owners, planners, and developers, the program aims to identify and protect cultural values before projects commence, leading to stronger cultural outcomes and more informed decision making. The SAHA team identifies the extent and significance of living, tangible, and intangible cultural heritage values associated with study areas and connected waterways throughout Wadawurrung Country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the delivery of Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessments
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements
  • Liaise with government agencies, developers, planning authorities, consultants, and Traditional Owners
  • Support and coordinate field survey activities and Cultural heritage assessments
  • Ensure project outcomes align with Wadawurrung Cultural values, governance processes, and strategic objectives
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and community engagement activities
  • Manage project documentation, reporting, and data collection.
  • Support the preparation of recommendations and strategic heritage planning advice
  • Monitor project risks and opportunities and implement continuous improvement initiatives

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in archaeology, Cultural heritage management, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Aboriginal Cultural heritage management in Victoria
  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination or project management
  • Experience working within Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, land management, planning, environmental, natural resource management, or related sectors
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Experience working with government agencies, Traditional Owner groups, consultants, or community organisations
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and report writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
  • A commitment to culturally safe practices and respect for Aboriginal cultural values
