About the Role

The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Registered Aboriginal Party Manager, responsible for leading the Cultural Heritage Unit and ensuring the protection and preservation of Bunurong cultural heritage.

This executive-level role plays a critical part in upholding the rights and responsibilities of the Bunurong people as a Registered Aboriginal Party under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic). You will work closely with the CEO, Board, Traditional Owners, and a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best practice cultural heritage management and meaningful engagement across all projects and initiatives.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic and operational direction of BLCAC’s Cultural Heritage Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and cultural heritage protocols.
  • Provide expert advice to the CEO and Board on cultural heritage matters.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs).
  • Manage high-level stakeholder engagement with government, councils, and industry.
  • Lead the Unit’s staff performance, development, and succession planning.
  • Oversee budgeting, resource planning, and funding applications.
  • Represent BLCAC in public forums and high-level negotiations.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a passionate and experienced cultural heritage professional who can lead with integrity, foster strong relationships, and champion the protection of Bunurong Country.

This is a key leadership role within BLCAC that requires strategic thinking, proven operational management, and a deep understanding of the cultural and legislative context in which Registered Aboriginal Parties operate.

You Will Have

  • Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander – this is a designated position under Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cultural heritage management within an Aboriginal organisation.
  • Heritage Advisor status or qualifications as a suitably qualified Archaeologist under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
  • Deep knowledge of cultural heritage legislation, including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and CHMP processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to work with Traditional Owners, Elders, and community members.
  • High-level communication and negotiation skills, including experience in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check, (or willingness to obtain a WWCC/National PC) and Victorian Driver’s Licence.
