The Opportunity
Lead Indigenous health learning that strengthens communities and shapes the next generation of medical graduates.
Western Sydney University is seeking an Indigenous academic leader to advance Indigenous health education, scholarship and partnerships within the School of Medicine. This continuing position will play a pivotal role in strengthening the foundations of culturally safe medical education across the Doctor of Medicine program and related health programs.
As Professor / Associate Professor of Indigenous Health, you will lead the design, renewal and delivery of Indigenous health curriculum as a longitudinal theme across all years of the medical program. You will ensure alignment with accreditation expectations and work closely with academic and professional colleagues to deliver high quality learning experiences. This includes teaching, assessment, supervision and mentoring to support student learning and success, with a specific focus on supporting Indigenous medical students.
The position also carries significant responsibility for building and sustaining respectful partnerships with Indigenous communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and related stakeholders. You will provide academic leadership for placements, community‑engaged learning, and initiatives that strengthen student and alumni connection. Travel across the School’s metropolitan, regional and rural footprint will be required to support partnerships and program delivery.
You will lead a program of Indigenous health scholarship that is ethical, community‑aligned and contributes to improved health outcomes. This includes supervising HDR candidates, building collaborative research relationships and contributing to School and University governance, with strong alignment to Western’s Indigenous Strategy and community priorities.
