INTRODUCTION
Join OLI’s energetic team supporting over 100+ Indigenous youth at our annual dance and leadership camp and showcase! You’ll gain hands-on experience in youth mentorship, arts leadership, and event production, working in a supportive and inclusive environment. Flights, meals, accommodations, and transportation (to/from Toronto) are provided.
COMPENSATION
- $2,000 for two weeks of training, camp, and performance work
- Option to work one week if unavailable for the full two weeks (with valid reasons)
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Ideal candidates:
- Are available for the full two weeks
- Have experience or comfort working with Indigenous youth
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professional boundaries
- Have strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
- Possess dance experience or understanding of dance
- Have a clear Criminal Background Check
- Mental health training/first aid and a driver’s license are assets
- Exhibit positive, approachable energy and excellent self-management
ROLE STRUCTURE
Week 1 – Camp Week (Both Roles)
Shared responsibilities for all support staff:
- Camp Prep & Clean-Up: Prepare and maintain camp spaces (dining hall, bunkhouses, barn, and activity areas) to ensure safety, organization, and cleanliness.
- Camp Intake: Collect, label, and store participants’ belongings, homework, medications, electronics, and other items in designated community bins.
- Bunkhouse & Community Supervision: Ensure youth are safe, comfortable, and accounted for; support daily routines including meals, cleaning, and laundry.
- Programming Support: Supervise and lead camp stations (Homework, Activities, Rehearsals, Sunday Funday trip) while keeping participants engaged and safe.
Week 2 – Tech Week (Specialized Focus)
Role A – Community Wrangling & Backstage Support
- Community Wranglers: Supervise assigned communities at all times, coordinate movement to rehearsals, hair/make-up, costume fittings, meals, and stage call times. Oversee homework, journal collection, and maintain tidy spaces.
- Costume, Hair & Make-Up Support: Assist with fittings, touch-ups (if participants are comfortable), labelling and organizing costumes by community.
- Backstage & Event Support: Load in/out costumes, props, and supplies; support VIP reception, lobby areas, merchandise booths, and media-related tasks.
Role B – Dance Responsibilities Focus
- Dance Performers: Rehearse and perform assigned routines, including Grand Entry, FL/Alumni Dance, and Closing Number. Follow hair, make-up, and staging rotations, and support participants with positioning and flow during performances.
- Warm-Up & Rehearsal Lead: Lead daily warm-ups/cooldowns, manage music, prepare dancers, and assist choreographers with rehearsal cleanup and potential choreography support.
- Staging Support: Help ensure participants are in the correct positions and maintain smooth performance flow during rehearsals and tech week.
Note: OLI will select dance performers for the showcase. Applicants should indicate whether they are interested in both roles or only one of them (Role A or Role B). Role B applicants must be available for both weeks.
