About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Indigenous Engagement and Community Manager to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, members, organisations, and partners while advancing Indigenous inclusion and representation across the organisation.

 

Reporting to the Head of Delivery Enablement, you will lead Indigenous engagement initiatives, build strong community partnerships, advocate for Indigenous perspectives, and help shape organisational strategy through meaningful community insights.

 

This is a manager-level individual contributor role with no direct reports. We are looking for a self-starter who can work autonomously, take ownership of the Indigenous engagement portfolio, influence stakeholders, and deliver initiatives end-to-end.

 

Importantly, this is not a purely strategic role. Success will come from being visible in community, building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Traditional Owners, and organisations, and representing the organisation at events, forums, and engagements on Country. You will also help share stories of impact, showcasing the outcomes of community partnerships and amplifying Indigenous voices across the organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver Indigenous engagement and inclusion initiatives aligned to organisational goals.
  • Build trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Traditional Owners, organisations, and members.
  • Advocate for Indigenous perspectives and promote greater representation across the profession.
  • Support cultural awareness and capability-building initiatives for staff and members.
  • Ensure engagement activities are conducted respectfully, ethically, and in line with Indigenous protocols and best practice.
  • Represent the organisation at community events, forums, and stakeholder meetings.

 

Community engagement is a core component of the position and travel will be required, including:

Travel is a requirement of this role and will include approximately 4-6 trips per year, comprising travel between office locations, attendance at organisational events, and visits to regional and remote Indigenous communities to support relationship building, community engagement, and partnership activities.

 

About You

You are a relationship-focused professional with experience working alongside Indigenous communities and stakeholders.

 

Essential Experience

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Experience representing an organisation in community and stakeholder settings.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • High levels of cultural awareness, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration platforms.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in Indigenous engagement, community development, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Relevant qualifications in Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Communications, Social Sciences, Business, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Training in project management, stakeholder engagement, change management, or cultural competency.
