Location: Umina Beach, NSW — with on-site work at our Mardi site every Monday

About the role

Maliga Safer Families is seeking a dedicated Child and Family Aboriginal Worker to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families living on the southern end of the Central Coast. The role strengthens social and emotional wellbeing through culturally safe, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and healing-informed approaches. You’ll help build connections with school and community life and promote safety and participation.

Please note: Availability to work on-site at our Mardi location each Monday is required.

Key responsibilities

Provide culturally safe support to children and families, grounded in local community knowledge and practice on Darkinjung Country.

Develop and deliver individualised, strengths-based case plans that enhance safety, stability, and wellbeing.

Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, and community organisations to ensure holistic, coordinated support.

Advocate for the needs and rights of Aboriginal children, young people, and families.

Plan and facilitate group/program activities that strengthen family safety, connection, and wellbeing.

Skills and attributes

Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and community dynamics.

Knowledge of trauma-informed and healing-centred practice.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work collaboratively across families, schools, and community organisations.

Empathy, respect, and cultural humility when supporting vulnerable families.

Qualifications and requirements

Certificate IV in Community Services (or similar), or a minimum of 2 years’ industry experience.

Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities (essential).

Sound knowledge of child protection frameworks and child development principles.

Current NSW Working With Children Check (valid).

Current driver’s licence.
