Role Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations, the Lead, Indigenous Relations plays a meaningful role in building strong positive relationships with Indigenous Governments and Organizations, and will dedicate a large portion of their time crafting and implementing Indigenous participation plans for Teck’s Major Projects, including Indigenous procurement, employment and training, and community investment. This role will also support the development of Teck governance and implementation toolkits to build consistent guidelines for Indigenous participation in North America. The role will engage with Teck’s Indigenous Agreement partners, communities of interest, contractors, and other key internal and external partners.
The position is based in Vancouver, BC with frequent travel to sites and communities.

Key Responsibilities

    • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
    • Foster Teck’s Purpose and Values through all interactions and activities undertaken.
    • Supports Teck’s Major Projects, with a near-term focus on Indigenous participation for the Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension (HVC MLE) Project, and implementation of Indigenous Agreement commitments. Develop associated strategies and plans to support these efforts.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships while acting as a liaison between Teck, Indigenous agreement partners, and local communities to facilitate open communication and collaboration.
    • Participate in Major Project contractor RFx development of Indigenous content requirements, participate in the evaluation of Indigenous content, and compliance of Indigenous content commitments.
    • Identify efficiencies between Project and Operations contracting and procurement.
    • Responsible for implementing and tracking fulfillment of HVC MLE Management Plan actions related to Indigenous participation (i.e. Workforce Accommodation Plan).
    • Lead socio-economic impact data collection and reporting program.
    • Supports Major Projects to ensure compliance with Teck’s Indigenous Peoples Policy, Teck’s Environment, Health, Safety and Community (HSEC) Standards and any other relevant commitments.
    • Identify community investment opportunities that align with Indigenous community priorities and goals. Support implementation and communication of such investments.
    • Identify and handle Indigenous participation risks and opportunities, including identify areas to support the self-defined economic priorities of Teck’s Indigenous partners.
    • Demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and respect for Indigenous traditions, values, and protocols.

Qualifications

    • Education or experience in Indigenous Relations, construction, project management, program management, social science, or other relevant fields.
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
    • Shown success working with Indigenous communities and project teams.
    • Experience designing, managing, and evaluating Indigenous strategies and programs.
    • Experience monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on initiatives and indicators.
    • Experience and familiarity with interpreting contracts is an advantage.
    • Budgeting and resource management and planning experience.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Office and MS365.
$93,000 - $115,000 a year
