We are seeking a collaborative, respectful, and relationship-focused Indigenous Relations Representative to join our team. The Indigenous Relations Representative will serve as a bridge between Buttcon and Indigenous stakeholders, ensuring meaningful engagement, effective communication, and measurable outcomes that advance reconciliation and Indigenous participation in construction projects. You will be working closely with Indigenous communities, internal project teams, and trade partners to support the implementation and success of Buttcon’s Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) on key projects supporting Buttcon’s commitments to the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) Program.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build, nurture, and maintain trust-based relationships with Indigenous leaders, communities, and partner organizations.
  • Support the development, coordination, and execution of Buttcon’s Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) on active projects, including employment, subcontracting, training, and skills development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams - including Project Management, Procurement, Human Resources, and Safety - to identify opportunities for Indigenous engagement and ensure IPP objectives are met.
  • Lead and participate in pre-construction and project launch engagement sessions with Indigenous communities to identify workforce, trade partner, and training needs.
  • Monitor, report, and track Indigenous participation metrics, ensuring timely and accurate updates for project teams and clients.
  • Represent Buttcon at community events, industry forums, and strategic meetings with integrity and professionalism.
  • Contribute to equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, promoting Truth and Reconciliation principles throughout Buttcon’s culture, policies, and practices.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Indigenous employees and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring successful onboarding, skills development, and career advancement.
  • Advise project teams on cultural awareness, protocols, and best practices for engaging respectfully and effectively with Indigenous stakeholders.


Qualification Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations in Canada.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and legal frameworks relevant to engagement in construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in workforce development, skills training, or procurement support is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to promoting reconciliation within corporate and project environments.

 

Working Conditions and Environment
