We are seeking a compassionate and community-focused Liaison, ACM Pastoral to join our dedicated team. This rewarding full-time position provides pastoral care, practical support, and community engagement for Aboriginal people across Perth, while helping strengthen faith, culture, and community connections.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside Aboriginal families, Elders, hospitals, community organisations, and the wider Catholic community in a role that has a genuine and lasting impact.
About the Role Reporting to the Director, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, you will provide pastoral support and assist in delivering a range of ministry programs and community initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
Pastoral Care & Community Support
- Provide pastoral care through hospital, hostel and home visits.
- Support Aboriginal families during times of illness, grief and bereavement.
- Assist with Funeral Ministry, including family support, transport assistance and guidance on available funding and services.
- Support House Blessings, Anointing of the Sick and Last Rites in collaboration with the ACM Chaplain and Director.
- Maintain accurate records of pastoral visits and community engagement.
Ministry & Community Programs
- Assist with the coordination of ministry programs, faith formation activities and community gatherings.
- Support the Aboriginal Worshipping Community and Sunday Mass celebrations.
- Help organise Elders and Seniors gatherings and other community events.
- Assist with sacramental programs and liturgical activities.
Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with Aboriginal communities and organisations.
- Engage with hospitals, hostels and community services to provide pastoral support and referrals.
- Promote meaningful engagement between the wider Catholic community and Aboriginal people.
Administration & Operational Support
- Maintain records, correspondence and general office administration.
- Assist with newsletters, social media and community communications.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling for the ACM bus.
- Support the upkeep of ministry facilities, gardens and storage areas.
- Attend team meetings and participate in ongoing professional development.
About You We're looking for someone who is compassionate, culturally aware and committed to supporting Aboriginal people and communities.
To be successful, you will have:
- Clinical Pastoral Education qualification (or equivalent), or a willingness to complete the qualification.
- Strong awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and community.
- Knowledge of the impacts of isolation, illness, grief, loss and being "off Country" for Aboriginal people.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Basic computer and administration skills.
- Current Western Australian Driver's Licence (LR Licence highly regarded).
- Current National Police Clearance.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Willingness to comply with hospital visitation requirements.
Desirable
- Previous experience providing pastoral care or community support.
- Knowledge of Catholic teachings, liturgy and sacraments.
- Good understanding of local community services and support networks.
