We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and the IFC in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services, and health promotion services.

 

The opportunity: Under the supervision of the Regional Manager, the Indigenous Hart Hub Mental Health Outreach Worker provides culturally safe, wholistic support to community members living with mental health and substance use challenges. This role integrates relational practice, land-based approaches, and collaboration with community partners, Elders, and cultural supports.

 What you need to bring with you:

  • Diploma or relevant experience in mental health/addictions, Indigenous studies, community outreach, or human services and 2 years related work experience (or equivalent combination of education and lived experience).
  • Understanding of Anishnaabe culture, history, and healing practices.
  • Experience supporting individuals facing addictions, trauma, poverty, or housing insecurity.
  • Strong engagement skills and ability to work independently in community.
  • CPR/First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and clearly communicate with clients.
  • Proficient skills in computer programs and electronic case management systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Successful vulnerable sector check is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; and ability to travel across catchment area.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle and willing to travel regularly within the Maamwesying catchment area.
  • Must have a valid G driver’s license.

What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar may occur. Hiring of Indigenous People will be given preference, as allowed under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code – Special Programs.
