Métis Calgary Family Services has offered Urban Indigenous community over 30 years of various outreach, Early Intervention  Family support, child development, youth mentoring, in-home support, supportive housing, and referral services for Indigenous children, youth families and community. Family Resource Workers,  work with Aboriginal  families in their own homes, schools, and communities. This Aboriginal Family Resource Worker  position is designed to work in collaboration with Child & Family Services,  Family Resource Networks, Native Network Family Resource Centre , within Rainbow Lodge  Supportive Housing utilizing Positive & Traditional Parenting strategies, Triple P Positive Parenting & other evidence based parenting approaches incorporating Ke Mama Nnanik Early Intervention strategies, and referral services with Indigenous families. Family Resource Workers work with families and children bridging community resources, supporting the healthy development of Native children and families.  Providing ongoing community development and culturally relevant Indigenous program facilitation, parenting information and promotion including ages and stages developmental screenings, Triple P positive parenting, Traditional parenting, life skills & literacy workshops, early learning and trauma informed, strength based approach, Information and referrals with  Indigenous families and children through the Urban Family Resource Network.


This Family Resource service is designed to collaboratively work as a team player within the scope of the In Home Family Support Program, - Ke Mama Nnanik.  Utilizing relationship building and facilitation skills and Early Childhood Intervention strategies with Indigenous families with a goal to Preserve and/or  Reunify families who may be at risk or in need of strength based culturally responsive community support.

Métis Calgary Family Services requires a full time Indigenous Family Resource Worker.

to work with families, and their children referred by CFSA within the community in addition to managing the HMIS Portal data, new intakes, reporting writing, and information management in accordance with the FOIP.


Our team is seeking a highly motivated independent individual who is family focused, friendly, responsible, organized, with a thorough understanding of the Child Welfare Act, with a valid Alberta drivers license as well as a clean criminal record with recent Vulnerable Sector, Child Intervention Check and Driver's Abstract., and a reliable vehicle.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding and compassion working with Indigenous families.

Extensive knowledge  and support of the 94 calls to Action Truth and Reconciliation 

Experience with data base management and input.
Exceptional time management skills.
Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.


* A minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in the Human Services field and/or three (3) years of experience working within the Indigenous community. 
* Experience working with Indigenous  families.
* Experience in crisis intervention de-escalation, ASSIST.
* Extensive knowledge and understanding of the TRC 94 calls to action and

   United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

* Knowledge and respect of Indigenous culture and traditional healing methods.
* experience with First Nation, Metis and/or Inuit culture.
* Respectful of individual and cultural diversity.

   Must have knowledge of the Canadian Accreditation Council of Human Services, standards of practice.
* Ability to speak in an indigenous language of turtle Island.
