Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre/Experiential Education
The Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre (MWC) is located on traditional Wolastoqiyik at the University of New Brunswick and provides a learning environment for indigenous students to develop a strong cultural foundation as well as academic and professional skills.
UNB Experiential Education serves as the central hub for advancing experiential learning across the University of New Brunswick. Its mission is to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, ensuring students develop practical skills, knowledge, and values that prepare them for success beyond graduation.

WHAT WE OFFER

Full-time | 1-year Term (Leave Replacement)| Fredericton | On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

Salary Range: $52,048 - $68,659 per annum

Preference will be given to an Indigenous person with strong cultural knowledge and relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations in New Brunswick.

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to Nikanahtpat (Director) of the Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre and the Director of Experiential Education, the Indigenous Experiential Education Coordinator will help support UNB's Indigenous experiential education programs through community and student outreach, funding allocation, program development, and administrative coordination.

• Oversee and maintain existing experiential learning programs within the Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre and the Wabanaki Bachelor of Education program.
• Identify opportunities for new and updated programs to increase access for Indigenous students.
• Evaluate experiential education opportunities to determine the barriers that Indigenous students might face and provide resources to help students overcome these barriers.
• Make recommendations to staff and faculty on how to create more inclusive opportunities for Indigenous students to participate in EE programs/courses.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to support Indigenous student experiences and to create and maintain culturally safe work-integrated learning placements for Indigenous students.
• Collaborate across the department and with Nikanahtpat (Director) of the Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre to support experiential education programming for Indigenous students at UNB.
• Coordinate cultural safety training for non-Indigenous community/industry partners as well as non-Indigenous students working in Indigenous communities.
• Manage all aspects of the PETL funds and complete reports for provincial use.
• Develop processes for distributing funding and disburse funds in line with UNB's financial guidelines.
• Manage funding applications and grant writing to support Indigenous student engagement.
• Collect and analyze data on Indigenous Experiential Education to gain insights into learners' experiences and fulfill the requirements of our external funding partners.
• Track and oversee programs using our career and experiential learning platform.
• Supervise, mentor, and guide students with Work Integrated Learning experiences.
• Organize workshops, conferences and/or cultural events to promote employer-Indigenous student connections.
• Engage in outreach with Education and Employment Directors in Indigenous communities to promote the Future Wabanaki initiative.
• Provide guidance and leadership for project specific funding applications.
• Participate in bi-monthly meetings and workshops to stay up to date with opportunities across the university.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Masters degree in Education, Indigenous Studies/Governance or other relevant field.
• Experience with relationship building with Wabanaki students and communities.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Additional Strengths

• Knowledge of client-centered and holistic approaches with Wabanaki clients an asset.
• Experience writing reports for academic, government and/or public audiences.
• Superior written and verbal presentation skills, time management, and mediation skills and a high level of professional versatility are required.
• Ability to understand and speak Wolastoqey or Mi'kmaq language - or demonstrates a willingness to learn a Wabanaki language.
