The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper Wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia.  SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, Aged Care and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development. 

Lead the Future of Aboriginal Health

We have an exciting newly created opportunity at SWAMS for an exceptional Aboriginal leader to join our Leadership Team as Executive Manager of Aboriginal Health. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, this influential executive role provides strategic and operational leadership across all Aboriginal health and clinical service delivery areas of the organisation. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of health outcomes for Aboriginal communities across the South West by ensuring services are delivered through a culturally safe, community-controlled and Aboriginal-led lens, consistent with the principles of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) sector. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will champion cultural integrity, strengthen community voice in decision-making and drive excellence across health, clinical and support services.

About the Role

The Executive Manager of Aboriginal Health directly supervises and supports our Senior Medical Officer, Primary Health Manager and Clinical Operations Manager along with providing executive oversight of:

• Aboriginal health strategy and service delivery
• Clinical governance and quality improvement systems
• Cultural safety and cultural integrity across services
• Operational performance and service integration
• Models of care aligned to community needs
• Workforce leadership and development
• Closing the Gap priorities and outcomes
• Continuous improvement and organisational excellence

This role is responsible for ensuring SWAMS’ clinical and health services remain responsive, culturally secure, high quality and community driven while supporting sustainable growth and innovation.

Essential Requirements

• Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act.
• Tertiary qualifications in Health Management, Public Health, Nursing, Aboriginal Health or a related discipline.
• Senior leadership experience within healthcare, community health, Aboriginal health or a related sector.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and senior leaders.
• Strong understanding of ACCHO principles and culturally safe service delivery.
• Proven expertise in strategic planning, clinical governance, operational management and quality improvement.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to influence organisational direction and drive meaningful change.
