The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Curatorial Program and Engagement Manager, First Nations Art to manage the administrative operations of the First Nations Art curatorial department. This position is responsible for applying high level project management skills to achieve strategic priorities and deepen engagement.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

You will be responsible for applying high level project management skills to support organisational goals in the area of the First Nations Art collection, exhibitions and programs. This includes managing project teams and budgets, project evaluation and reporting, setting clearly defined objectives and priorities and operating accordingly, and initiating and managing changes in business processes as required. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate records and schedules, developing and coordinating high quality papers, proposals, and presentations and corresponding with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Working closely with the Senior Curator, coordinating the NGV First Nations Art and Design Strategic Council, and assisting with other strategic community engagement initiatives to build and maintain effective ongoing relationships with community members, stakeholders and partners.
  • Supporting the awareness of the NGV and the First Nations Art collection area through engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including donors, corporate partners, Government representatives and other stakeholders, artists, designers, museums and galleries, volunteers and audiences. Representing the NGV in external forums, as required.

To be successful, you will have demonstrated professional experience in working with First Nations artists and peoples, experience in high-level program management and working effectively with a range of individuals and organisations.

You develop and implement processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, including systems and procedures to guide and track work progress. You identify critical activities and operate accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required, produce budgets and project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified. You regularly communicate with, and support project team members and ensure project objectives are met by anticipating and managing potential and emerging issues.
