Wage Range: $20.00 - $26.00/hour

The Opportunity:

Sunoco is seeking an enthusiastic Community & Indigenous Relations Summer Intern to support Indigenous Relations, Community Relations, and sponsorship initiatives in Burnaby and surrounding communities.

This is a hands-on role supporting the implementation of the PAIR (Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations) program developed by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. The intern will contribute across PAIR pillars including Leadership, Employment, Business Development, and Community Relationships.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about Indigenous Relations and community engagement. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently and supporting in-person events, including occasional weekend work.

Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation and tracking of PAIR initiatives and related activities.
  • Participate and support Indigenous and non-Indigenous community meetings and events.
  • Coordinate and activate Indigenous and non-Indigenous community events and sponsorships (including summer events in Burnaby).
  • Assist with event logistics, setup, and takedown (must be able to lift up to 45lbs).
  • Write articles and coordinate content for a variety of channels (e.g., newsletters, websites, social media etc.)
  • Support data collection, data entry and reporting.
  • Coordinate in-person cultural awareness and learning events.

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Relations, Communications/Public Relations, Business/Commerce, Community Development, or a related field.

Requirements:

  • Available for a 4 or 8 month term beginning May 2026.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Availability to support occasional weekend and evening events.
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with effective time management skills and a detail-oriented approach.
  • Lived experience or deep knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and governance.
  • Experience working directly or indirectly with Indigenous communities and/or organizations is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
