Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program works across three partner organisations, working together collaboratively across the region. The program will deliver a variety of community focussed activities supporting communities with engagement and education, smoking and vaping impacts in the home and workplace, and targeting vulnerable groups, to bring about a reduction in smoking prevalence to reduce rates of chronic disease and continue to improve the life expectancy of the community.
You will have the opportunity to work with communities and promote the benefits of intervention strategies related to smoking and vaping behaviours, and work with organisations to implement Smoke and Vape Free workplace policies and practices.
The community engagement role will be supporting the regional team to deliver programs and activities across the region with a focus on being able to visit isolated communities and be required to adapt your messaging and materials based on differences in community priorities and focused areas. The role is located in Ballina, and the successful applicant will be required to undertake health promotion activities focusing on smoking and vaping across Aboriginal communities from the Central Coast to Tweed Heads.
Travel is a key component of this role.
This role is part of a regional collaboration between Bullinah, Galambila, and Awabakal Aboriginal Health Services, supporting culturally safe tobacco control initiatives from Northern Rivers to Newcastle. You’ll engage in joint programs, school visits, community events, and strategic planning with teams across these services.
