Casual Instructors Applicant Pool - Indigenous and International Languages Program

The OCDSB’s Continuing Education Department is looking to establish a pool of qualified applicants to staff future casual instructors within the Elementary Indigenous and International Languages Program (IILP).

Rate of Pay: $21.26 to $31.43 + 4% vacation pay

This posting may be used to staff upcoming casual vacancies within the Elementary IILP programs (i.e. non-credit bearing courses) during the next 4-6 months. About the IILP Program:

The Continuing Education Department offers international language classes for elementary students through the International and Indigenous Languages Program. These classes provide students an opportunity to listen, speak and write to maintain the language of their home or heritage, or learn a new language.  

Languages within our program include but are not limited to:

• Albanian, American Sign Language, Arabic, Bahasa Indonesian, Bengali, Cantonese, Chin, Coptic, Czech, Dari, Finnish, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Kannada, Lai, Khmer, Malayalam, Mandarin, Marathi. Mongolian, Nepali, Nuer, Pashto, Persian/Farsi, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamazight, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

• Plan, coordinate and implement an instructional program that is optimal for the target language learning that is age appropriate and reflects current teaching practices in Ontario;
• Familiarity with digital teaching platforms and tools including but not limited to Google Meet, Google Classroom, Google Site, etc.;
• Be knowledgeable to teach students synchronously in the virtual learning setting;
• Incorporate equitable and inclusive teaching  practices allowing entry points for all students;
• Assess and evaluate student progress on a regular basis;
• Communicate students’ progress to parents/guardians and students regularly and at reporting intervals as per program requirements;
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students;
• Attend professional development learning opportunities as provided. 
  
  

Qualifications

• Fluency in one or more of the target languages;
• Teaching experience, with preference to teaching experience of the target language; 
• Related degree or diploma, with preference to Ontario College of Teachers’ certification or equivalent would be an asset.
