The Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department at New Mexico State University seeks a Tenure Track Assistant Professor who is qualified to teach courses in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies, preferably through a broad Borderlands lens.

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies or Native American Studies; have the skills and knowledge to contribute to further developing curriculum and events/programming in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies; and contribute to student-focused recruitment and retention strategies in the department; including continuing to forge partnerships with NMSU’s American Indian Programs student services unit as well as other related units across campus.

Standard Work Schedule: Standard (M-F, 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The faculty member must be able to provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in one or more of the department's three programs. The faculty member is required to publish/disseminate research and scholarly/creative productions aligned with their research agenda in one or more of the department's fields. They will also participate in faculty governance, strategic planning, curriculum review and development, student outcome assessment, and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
1. Possess an earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o or Latino/x/e Studies, and/or Native American Studies.
2. Possess the ability to recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Evidence of providing service to the professional and/or academic community.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
