Assistant Director, Closing the Gap - Affirmative Measure - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
DEWRReporting to the Director, you will be responsible for leading implementation activities and providing strategic advice to support DEWR's commitments toward the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The roles involve inspiring and challenging DEWR business units to critically assess their approaches, their successes and drive innovative solutions for working in genuine partnership with First Nations stakeholders. The roles will also lead monitoring and reporting activities, including providing strategic input to internal governance committees and embedding Closing the Gap Priority Reforms across all of DEWR’s business.
Please note that the initial vacancy is for an ongoing position. A merit pool will be established for future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies that may arise.
Responsibilities of the EL1 level may include:
- Leading projects and work programs that support implementation of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and DEWR's Closing the Gap commitments
- Providing strategic and evidence-based advice to senior leaders on policy, program and organisational reform issues affecting First Nations peoples
- Supporting DEWR business areas to implement Priority Reforms and embed culturally responsive and partnership-based approaches across DEWR
- Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal stakeholders and acting as a trusted business partner to support organisational change
- Identifying emerging issues, risks and opportunities and providing practical recommendations to support decision-making
- Contributing to cross-government initiatives and collaborating with the National Indigenous Australians Agency, central agencies and other departments to share better practice approaches
- Leading monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities, including preparation of high-quality briefings, submissions and governance reporting
- Supporting and mentoring team members, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture.
Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
