• Part-time (0.6 FTE | 21 hours per week), Fixed-Term position for 2-years
• Parramatta South campus, with flexible working arrangements
• Salary: HEW Level 6 $95,777 – $102,659 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading (paid on a pro‑rata basis for a 0.6 FTE appointment).

The Opportunity
Western Sydney Creative is expanding its curatorial and community-engaged programs and is seeking an Assistant Curator who will contribute to Indigenous-led practices, culturally safe exhibition development, and community collaboration. In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Curator to support research, curatorial development, public programming and the delivery of exhibitions.

You will assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of exhibitions across multiple Western Sydney University campuses, including artist liaison, materials preparation, documentation, logistical support, and implementation of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) protocols. This is an opportunity to build curatorial capability while contributing to access, diversity and student learning within a dynamic and values-led cultural environment.

The position offers hands-on experience across collections management, artwork care, public programs, and event coordination. You will develop skills in ethical exhibition practices, research methodologies, interpretation writing and audience engagement, while contributing to initiatives that strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, artists, and cultural partners.

What Success Looks Like

• Deliver high-quality, culturally safe support across curatorial research, exhibition planning and Indigenous-led programming.
• Apply ICIP protocols and Indigenous-led frameworks to collection handling, documentation and community engagement.  
• Coordinate logistics, scheduling, artist liaison, catering, installation and campus artwork movements effectively.
• Maintain professional, respectful and confidential working relationships with colleagues, artists and community partners.

About You

• You identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and bring cultural knowledge that strengthens Indigenous-led practices.
• You bring relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in curatorial, arts, cultural or project support roles.
• You have an interest in contemporary art and an understanding of exhibition and collections processes, documentation and ICIP frameworks.
• You demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently across concurrent deadlines.
