Aboriginal Support Worker (Female) – Rick Hammersley Therapeutic Community

The Role:

The Aboriginal Support Worker will provide yarning, mentoring, interactive therapeutic activities, education, mediation, and support staff members and residents in a residential alcohol and other drug treatment setting. The key focus of the position is in providing appropriate support to female residents of the Saranna and Gnangara Programs that operate at the Rick Hammersley Therapeutic Community facility.

The Aboriginal Support Worker will also foster connections with local Aboriginal Elders and communities, ensuring culturally appropriate support and engagement.

You will be a key part of a multidisciplinary team, offering site-based support to enhance the accessibility, and the cultural security of our service.

AND

Due to the nature of this role working with Female residents within the Saranna program, in accordance with the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, division 5 section 27 this position is to be occupied by females only.

The position is part-time working 38 hours per fortnight, based at our Cullacabardee site. Level 4 – Level 5, salary $93,490 – $110,413 per annum on pro-rata basis plus superannuation (depending on experience).

To be appointed / successful in this role you will require the following key qualifications, skills and experience:

• Possess a sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

• Hold a Certificate III in Community Services and AOD and/or experience working with Aboriginal people in an AOD service (minimum).

• Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

• Willing to take an active role in Continuous Quality Improvement, learning, and contributing to service excellence.

• Sound skills in communicating with and responding to women and families and in maintaining boundaries and confidentiality.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with clients, families, and colleagues.

• Current National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate, and Current Driver’s Licence.

• Have an understanding of the “Therapeutic Community” treatment model.
