Aboriginal Support Worker

Rick Hammersley Therapeutic Centre (TC)

The Role:

The Aboriginal Support Worker will provide yarning, mentoring, interactive therapeutic activities, education, mediation, and support staff members and residents in a residential setting. They will also develop relationships with Aboriginal communities seeking residential treatment through our Residential Pathways Program. The Aboriginal Support Worker will also foster connections with local Aboriginal Elders and communities, ensuring culturally appropriate support and engagement.

You will be a key part of a multidisciplinary team, offering site-based support to enhance accessibility to our services.

Cyrenian House provides a wide range of high-quality treatment services that make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by alcohol and other drugs.

The position is part-time, 40 hours per fortnight, based at our Cullacabardee site. Level 4 – Level 5, salary $93,490 – $110,413 per annum on pro-rata basis (depending on experience)

To be appointed / successful in this role you will require the following key qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Possess a sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Hold a Certificate III in Community Services and AOD and/or experience working with Aboriginal people in an AOD service (minimum).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willing to take an active role in Continuous Quality Improvement, learning, and contributing to service excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Current National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate, and Current Driver’s Licence.

Desirable competencies and experience:

  • Have an understanding of the 12-step philosophy and “Community as a Method Treatment Model”.
