The Aboriginal Research Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the delivery of culturally safe and ethically sound clinical research involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Working in partnership with patients, families, communities, and multidisciplinary teams, the role ensures research activities are conducted in a way that respects cultural values, promotes trust, and improves health outcomes.
The position is responsible for coordinating clinical trial and research activities, supporting participant engagement and retention, and ensuring compliance with relevant protocols, ethical guidelines, and Good Clinical Practice. The Aboriginal Research Coordinator also contributes to culturally appropriate communication, advocacy, and education, helping to ensure that research is accessible, respectful, and responsive to community needs.
This role supports continuous quality improvement, strengthens relationships between health services and Aboriginal communities, and contributes to building capacity in Aboriginal health research.
This Fixed term part-time position is identified for Aboriginal applicants in accordance with Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
The Position
Assess patient eligibility and support recruitment into clinical trials
Ensure patients are informed, consented, and supported throughout participation
Deliver trial treatments and follow-ups in line with protocol, GCP, and safety standards
Coordinate trial start-up activities and ensure regulatory compliance
Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
Manage monitoring visits, data collection, and specimen handling
Provide patient-centred care aligned with clinical guidelines and trial protocols
Identify and manage protocol deviations, risks, and adverse events
Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and trial participation
Develop and monitor care plans, evaluating patient outcomes
Maintain accurate and high-quality clinical documentation
Ensure accurate collection, verification, and recording of trial data
Maintain compliance with GCP, privacy, and organisational requirements
The Position Requirements
The right candidate will hold a degree in health or a related discipline, along with current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification and knowledge of relevant clinical and regulatory research frameworks.
You will have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Midland Aboriginal Health Team, Aboriginal communities, and key stakeholders, providing cultural leadership across diverse Aboriginal communities, mainstream health services, and community agencies.
You will bring well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to share information in a clear and culturally appropriate manner, alongside strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
As a successful candidate you will work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, demonstrate an understanding of occupational health and safety principles, and hold a current C or C.A class driver’s licence. Previous experience in a healthcare or community service setting, along with research experience involving Aboriginal and/or broader community organisations, will be highly regarded.

Salary: $88,982 to $105,187 per annum pro rata basis, plus 12% superannuation
Fixed Term part-time position, working 45.6 hours per fortnight
