Be Recruitment is proud to partner with the Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre to recruit an Aboriginal Partnerships and Community Engagement Coordinator.
The Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre supports women impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence through trauma-informed counselling, case management, group programs and holistic recovery supports.
As the Centre continues to grow, we are seeking a First Nations woman to lead and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, guide culturally safe engagement practices, and support the delivery of the Centre's broader community engagement strategy. This role will play a key part in ensuring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander voices, perspectives and priorities are meaningfully embedded across the organisation while fostering strong connections with community stakeholders throughout the Illawarra.

About the Role
This community-focused role is centred on connection, advocacy and partnership.
Working closely with the Head of Impact, Lived Expertise and Community Engagement, you will play a key role in delivering the Centre's Community Engagement Strategy by building and maintaining meaningful relationships across Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and broader community networks.
While a strong focus of the role is strengthening relationships with First Nations women, communities, Elders and organisations, you will also work across the wider community sector to increase awareness of the Centre, strengthen partnerships, and ensure community voices help inform service delivery, program development and future planning.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, organisations and community leaders
- Working alongside Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women and communities to strengthen engagement, participation and trust
- Supporting the implementation of the Centre's Community Engagement Strategy across Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and broader community settings
- Building and maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders, service providers and key networks across the Illawarra
- Promoting awareness of the Centre's services and identifying opportunities to improve accessibility and community reach
- Representing the Centre at community events, forums, gatherings and sector networks
- Facilitating community consultation and engagement activities to inform service delivery and future planning
- Advocating for the needs, priorities and perspectives of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women and communities
- Supporting staff across the organisation to strengthen culturally safe and responsive practice
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen partnerships, collaboration and community connections
About You
We recognise there are many pathways into this work.
You may have experience in community engagement, Aboriginal health, women's services, community development, advocacy, education or other community-led initiatives.
Most importantly, you will bring:
- Strong connections and credibility within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
- A commitment to cultural safety, respect and relationship-building
- Confidence engaging with community members, organisations and stakeholders
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and foster meaningful partnerships
- A passion for creating positive outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women and women across the broader community.
- An understanding of self-determination and community-led approaches
- Experience building partnerships and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal organisations, community groups and government agencies
We welcome applications from women whose experience has been gained through community, cultural, professional and lived experience pathways. Formal qualifications are valued but not essential.
