This position is Aboriginal identified. In accordance with an exemption granted by the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) under sections 30, 52 and 103 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA), only applicants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent are eligible to apply.
About the Role:
The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer (AHLO) plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients throughout their hospital journey at Murray Bridge, ensuring care is culturally safe, respectful, and well-coordinated. Working alongside clinical teams, the AHLO provides cultural support, assists patients in understanding their care, helps bridge communication gaps (including arranging interpreters when needed), and ensures health information is clearly and sensitively explained. They also support smooth transitions from admission to discharge by coordinating transport, linking patients with community health services, and advocating for culturally appropriate care. This role is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by strengthening connections between patients, families, communities, and healthcare services.
This position will be working across a 7-day roster, to be negotiated, in the Emergency Department and also supporting the inpatient ward patients as required in collaboration with the AHLO team.
