As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners throughout their time in custody and their transition back into the community. Working closely with prisoners, staff, Elders, and community organisations, you'll help ensure culturally safe and meaningful support services are delivered. You'll be part of a collaborative team committed to rehabilitation, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for individuals and communities.

As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer in the Offender Development team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

• Supporting culturally appropriate interventions and wellbeing programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
• Facilitating connections with Elders, community organisations and culturally significant programs.
• Advocating for prisoners' cultural, welfare and reintegration needs.
• Developing strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Providing guidance on cultural practices and supporting culturally safe service delivery.
• Investigating and reporting incidents while promoting respect, inclusion and fairness across the facility.

• Experience working in a welfare, community services, justice, human services or similar environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting or advocating for people with complex needs.
• Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and contemporary issues.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships.
• A collaborative approach and commitment to working as part of a supportive team.
