About the Role

The Education & Youth Justice Caseworker works within Marist180's Mudjin Byala Program, delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed case management and early intervention support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

The role supports young people who are disengaged from education, transitioning into secondary school, or experiencing contact with Youth Justice, Police and/or family intervention services. Working alongside young people, families, schools, Elders and community partners, you will help strengthen educational engagement, cultural identity, wellbeing and positive life outcomes. As a trusted advocate and mentor, you will empower young people to achieve their goals while building strong relationships with families, schools and community services.

Primary accountabilities of the role of Caseworker include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide culturally responsive, strengths-based case management and intensive support
  • Deliver high-quality casework support tailored to the individual needs of young people.
  • Make informed decisions and implement appropriate interventions in collaboration with clients.
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Justice stakeholders and other key service providers.
  • Monitor case compliance in accordance with funding body requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with families, community organisations and relevant support services.
  • Engage proactively within school environments and foster positive, respectful relationships with young people.
  • Contribute to program reporting and maintain accurate case documentation.


Skills And Experiences

Qualifications:

  • Certificate IV, Diploma, or Degree in social work, community services, or a related field focused on community development and engagement.
  • Additional studies or experience in trauma-informed care and casework is an advantage.
  • Aboriginal studies or experience working with Aboriginal communities is highly regarded.

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in a similar case management role (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience working with young people who display risk taking behaviours.
  • Experience working with young people who have experience Youth Justice involvement.
  • Proven experience working with young people aged 12-18 who have experienced complex life transitions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of foster care conditions and understanding of child protection principles.
  • Ability to work well within established formal or contractual arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • High interpersonal skills and ability to self-reflect.
  • Skills in managing children/young people with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
  • Empathy and cultural competency to work sensitively and contribute to an inclusive environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • NSW Legal and Education systems
  • Local knowledge of, and involvement in, the Western Sydney community
  • Knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Work Requirement:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Clear National Criminal History Check.
  • Unrestricted NSW driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.
  • Provide M180 consent to complete a verification of the Residential Care Workers Register managed by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
