Who are we?

National Indigenous Network Initiative (NINI) is an inclusive, not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, South Australia.

We are dedicated to truth-telling and advancing self-determination through culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based therapeutic care that nurtures healing, strengthens social and emotional wellbeing, and supports mental health.

We are proud to be launching the Aboriginal Social & Emotional Wellbeing Centre in partnership with Sonder and OARS Community Transitions, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments.

The Centre represents a new and exciting chapter for community connection, healing and culture-led care.

About the Role

As the Aboriginal Community Consultant (Narrative Therapist), you will use Narrative Approaches to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Guests to reconnect with their strengths, culture, identity and community. Working within the Centre’s transdisciplinary Model of Care, you will provide culturally safe therapeutic support while contributing to workforce capability, community capacity building and culturally responsive practice across the service.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply specialist Narrative Approaches within an Aboriginal-led service that places culture, community and healing at the centre of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe Narrative Therapy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Guests.
• Support Guests to strengthen identity, culture, family and community connections through Narrative Approaches.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups, yarning circles and community wellbeing activities.
• Support staff to incorporate narrative-informed and culturally responsive approaches into their work with Guests.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and key stakeholders.
• Contribute to community capacity building through community-led initiatives and culturally responsive practice.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support holistic guest care and continuous service improvement.
• Maintain accurate records using the Centre’s client management system.

About You

• Passionate about strengthening Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing through culturally responsive Narrative Approaches.
• Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, communities and ways of knowing, being and doing.
• Ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families and communities.
• Skilled in facilitating therapeutic conversations that promote healing, resilience and cultural connection.
• Committed to culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.
• Collaborative and enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and Other Requirements

• Diploma of Narrative Approaches for Aboriginal People (Consulting, Group and Community Work).
• Demonstrated experience working within Aboriginal community settings.
• Current or willing to obtain the required vaccinations under SA Health Policy.
• Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
• Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC).
• Current Driver’s Licence.
