About the Role

Our client is seeking a passionate and culturally knowledgeable Aboriginal Communications Advisor to lead internal and external communications that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives across the organisation.

 In this role, you will provide specialist advice, craft inclusive and engaging communication strategies, and contribute to key programs including the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). You will work closely with internal stakeholders, Aboriginal teams, and Corporate Affairs to ensure alignment, authenticity, and cultural integrity across all communications.

 Please note: This is 6-month contract position. Monday to Friday. 38 hours per week. Based in Perth.

 

About the role: 

  • Develop and implement internal and external communication strategies to engage employees and support major initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance on internal channels, campaigns, events, and communication materials in line with corporate brand standards.
  • Create content in collaboration with key internal teams, such as Aboriginal Strategy & Reconciliation, Aboriginal Employment & Development, Aboriginal Heritage & Native Title, and Aboriginal Contractor Engagement.
  • Partner with Corporate Affairs and subject matter experts to ensure communications are culturally informed, aligned, and consistent.
  • Establish communication success measures and report on outcomes.
  • Develop and implement Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communication frameworks, including guidelines, presentations and supporting documentation.

 

About You

This position meets the requirements of Section 50(d) of the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984, where Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational requirement.

 To be successful, you will bring:

 A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media, or a related field.

  • Experience in Aboriginal employee engagement, stakeholder management, and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic communication and engagement plans, including tactical messaging.
  • Experience delivering communication programs and providing corporate-level advice in large, service-based organisations.
  • Proven ability to build strong, proactive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of historical and contemporary policies affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
