About the opportunity

We are seeking 2 motivated and enthusiastic Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent candidates to join our heavy vehicle mechanic apprenticeship. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a qualified professional and obtain a nationally recognised trade qualification, commencing January 2026 on a term contract, full-time basis for up to 4 years.

Throughout the first 3 years, you will receive on the job training, and the 4th year will be a purely practical experience. Ideal candidates will embark on a structured learning journey, attending and successfully completing a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. During this apprenticeship, you will be working with, and supported by qualified tradespeople. 

The salaries and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Blacktown City Council Enterprise Agreement.

Who can apply

• Applicants for this position must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
• Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age or older
• No longer at school or home-schooled
• If currently enrolled in school or home-schooled must:
  • Have completed year 10 or equivalent
  • Provide written approval to proceed from either a school principal or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) or an authorised person acting in lieu of a school  principal.
• No experience required
• Ability to obtain a class C driver’s licence when able to
• Applicants must be an Australian citizen or be eligible to work in Australia (evidence required).
