THE ROLE:

Our summer student program provides an opportunity to experience real-world challenges, collaborate with diverse teams, network with other students and create a vision for your future career path. 
Working with our Indigenous Relations and External Affairs teams, this full-time position will run from the beginning of May to the end of August 2026. The position can be based in either Calgary AB, or Fort St. John, BC. During your summer, you will gain exposure to the energy industry by attending sessions hosted by subject matter experts and will have an opportunity to showcase your learnings with your student network. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
- Supporting the PETRONAS Canada Indigenous Education Awards Program by:- Managing and tracking incoming Award applications using Excel and Wufoo platforms, ensuring accurate data organization and timely updates
- Providing direct support to award applicants, guiding them through the application process to ensure completeness and compliance with program requirements
- Developing and maintaining documentation related to the award selection process, including evaluation criteria, scoring templates, and decision-making frameworks
- Supporting communication and marketing
- Coordinating communication with applicants regarding Program outcomes, ensuring timely and respectful notification of status.
 
- Preparing high-quality presentations, briefing notes, and other materials for PETRONAS leadership and external stakeholders to support decision-making and strategic engagement
- Collaborating with the External Affairs team to support activations with community partners
- Conducting research, assisting in planning, and contributing to the execution of community events and initiatives that enhance PETRONAS’ external communications and stakeholder relationships
- Participating in cross-functional projects and initiatives as needed, contributing to the advancement of PETRONAS’ Indigenous relations and community engagement goals
- Some travel in Northeast BC may be required
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Actively enrolled in an undergraduate degree or diploma program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and must be returning to studies after the work term
- Enrolled in a related program such as Social Sciences, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, Indigenous Studies, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, or other similar programs
- Experience in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is an asset
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Organized, critical thinker, with strong time management, who works well in a team and independently
- Adaptable to changing priorities and demonstrated complex problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Curious and passionate about working in community investment and Indigenous relations within the energy sector
- Preference will be given to students with a strong working knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples and cultures in the Treaty 8 region of Northeast BC
