ANNUALIZED SALARY: $52,971 – $119,945

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) invites applications for a Special Assignment Teacher in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) with an Indigenous focus. This role supports the Board's commitment to Indigenous education, student achievement, equity, and reconciliation by integrating Indigenous knowledge systems, perspectives, and pedagogies within the Ontario Catholic curriculum. The successful candidate will provide innovative, inquiry-based, and experiential STEAM learning experiences opportunities while fostering Catholic values and respect for Indigenous ways of knowing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Collaborate with Curriculum Department staff—including the Indigenous Education Lead, STEAM Lead, Experiential Learning Lead, and classroom teachers—to design lesson plans and long-term programming that integrate Indigenous teachings, cultures, perspectives, and values into STEAM education.
  • Develop and deliver Indigenous-informed STEAM learning experiences, incorporating cultural teachings, ecological knowledge, and land-based learning.
  • Work with the System Administrator for Equity, Diversity, and Indigenous Education and Indigenous Education Lead to invite Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to ensure teachings are authentically represented and respectfully integrated into programming.
  • Adapt and share Indigenous-focused STEAM learning activities with educators, students, and families across the district.
  • Support and co-deliver professional development for staff on Indigenous-informed STEAM teaching and culturally responsive practices.
  • Integrate Indigenous worldviews, languages, cultural teachings, and ecological knowledge into instruction to enhance student engagement, achievement, and well-being.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that respects Indigenous identities, traditions, and perspectives.
  • Collaborate with Experiential Lead and Indigenous Grad Coach to support students in exploring career and post-secondary pathways in STEAM-related fields.
  • Contribute to the Board's commitment to reconciliation, equity, diversity, and Catholic faith formation.
  • Valid driver's license and the willingness and ability to travel for school board related business is required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Qualifications in one or more STEAM subject areas (e.g., Science, Mathematics, Technological Studies, Visual Arts, or Computer Studies)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, traditions, and pedagogies
  • Commitment to Catholic education and the Board's mission of nurturing faith, inspiring learning, and celebrating the uniqueness of each individual
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous, Métis or Inuit. Please note that candidates who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify within their application for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of or ability to teach an Indigenous language
  • Experience with experiential learning, land-based education and cross-curricular integration
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, Elders, and community partners
