Summary:

The Program Coordinator, Indigenous Pathways Program supports the enrollment, transition, and retention of Indigenous students in engineering programs. The role enhances resources and develops systems to reduce barriers, provides direct mentorship, and builds supports that grow with the program. A major part of this position is helping shape an evolving program by working with Indigenous communities, students, and post‑secondary partners to gather feedback and develop recommendations for Ulnooweg and partner institutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate regular feedback sessions with Indigenous students to understand their challenges, needs, and goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous engineering students.
  • Promote awareness of Ulnooweg’s Indigenous Pathways Programs and partner programs.
  • Liaise between Ulnooweg, partner institutions, Indigenous communities, and students to align program supports.
  • Assist department collaborators in adopting new practices and resources within partnered institutions.
  • Foster relationships with local Indigenous communities and help identify and address barriers from enrollment to graduation.
  • Mentor and support Indigenous students currently or preparing to enter engineering programs.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative data and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct data collection in alignment with First Nations OCAP® principles.
  • Advise incoming students on academic, cultural, and social supports available through the Pathways Program.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the position as required.


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, Indigenous studies, education, or a similar field of study. Experience with a technical field, through education and/or lived experience, is an asset.
  • Proven experience advising students and youth in educational settings.
  • Previous experience in program coordination, student affairs, diversity, equity, inclusion, or related roles within higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships with staff, colleagues, students, and communities.
  • Ability to facilitate conversations, collect feedback, and interpret information effectively.
  • Strong understanding of the Indigenous community landscape in Atlantic Canada.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong organizational, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience collecting and interpreting data to inform decision-making.
