Overview of Position

THIS IS A CAREER LADDER POSITION: Preferential consideration for current FTE Paraprofessional bargaining unit employees who have at least a strong overall rating on their most recent performance evaluation and have appropriate training and experience for a more responsible position.  The SPS and the SEA recognize the need for career development opportunities for employees to improve their abilities and skills and to advance to more responsible positions.

The H.S. Graduation Success Coordinator (GSC) coordinates processes to identify and assist students who are deficient in grades and/or credits required to earn a H.S. diploma. The GSC will work with the students, families, and school staff to identify academic and personal challenges and develop action plans, strategies and interventions to accelerate student attendance and learning to improve grades and credits earned. The GSC will provide ongoing tracking and monitoring to maintain progress toward graduation.

The Native American Ed Division is looking for candidates who:

  • Are familiar with 574 Federally Recognized Tribes of the USA
  • Understand what Since Time Immemorial is
  • Are familiar with Washington State local tribes
  • Understand that the language of the local tribes is Lushootseed
  • Manage 506 Forms, and keep them organized



Position Reports to:  Native American Education Manager

Essential Functions

20%
  • Coordinate process to identify, assess, intervene and monitor students off track from high school graduation.

20%
  • Serve as lead liaison in organizing communication and collaboration between students, parents, and school staff to develop, implement and monitor plans and interventions to insure students' academic success. Regularly utilizes various means of communication to students that positively reinforces progress or alerts them to the need for further interventions.

  • Gather and analyze relevant data and documents to assess student progress, maintains records, prepares reports.

15%
  • Connect students to interventions and services needed to meet academic, disciplinary, and personal needs that may affect graduation plans. Serves as the school contact to exchange confidently information about students.

  • Help ensure a culturally responsive, family-friendly school climate.

  • Assist with scheduling parent-teacher conferences as needed for monitoring and supporting student progress.

  • Communicate with school staff to assess student ongoing needs, plans, evaluates and adjusts interventions.

  • Communicate regularly with students, families and community partners.

  • Use computers and related technology for research, record-keeping, and communication.

  • Perform related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Travel to community agencies and college campuses as needed.
  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position.

Knowledge
  • Knows characteristics and process to assess and identify student who need additional support to achieve academic success.
  • Knows requirements for high school graduation and college admission.
  • Knows psychology of child/adolescent development and challenges.
  • Knows non-violent communication skills.
  • Knows record keeping, standard office procedure and equipment operation, including computer and related software.
  • Knows fund raising strategies, including grants, events, donors, etc.
  • Knows best strategies to enhance student learning.

  • Proficient with Seattle School District software.
  • Proficient with communication, both oral and written.
  • Proficient with maintaining well-organized files and records.
  • Proficient with maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficient with developing, administering and analyzing surveys and data.
  • Proficient with developing strong, positive relationships with diverse students, families, staff and community partner agencies.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Associate degree OR 2) completion of two years of college, not a degree but seventy-two (72) quarter hours or forty-eight (48) semester hours of college credit.

YEARS of RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of related work experience in school or community-based program.

SUBSTITUTION: Additional related work experience or a passing score on the Praxis Parapro Assessment Test can substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Background Clearance 

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: 
Valid State of Washington Driver’s License or evidence of equivalent mobility
