Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Based in the School of Psychology, we are looking for a Māori or Pacific Lecturer in Clinical Psychology who will bring cultural expertise and leadership in teaching, research, and clinical supervision. The role supports the development of a workforce equipped to meet the needs of Māori and Pacific communities.

Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities (not limited too):

• Deliver culturally safe, research-informed teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, ideally in Youth Forensics and/or Neuropsychology.
• Develop and coordinate courses, lectures, tutorials, and assessments.
• Provide academic and pastoral support for Māori and Pacific students in the Clinical Psychology programme.
• Undertake clinical practice to maintain registration and model best practice.
• Conduct high-quality, impactful research, with an emphasis on Indigenous, Māori or Pacific psychology.
• Secure external research funding and supervise postgraduate student research.
• Contribute to the academic community through service, leadership, and advocacy for Māori and Pacific students.
• Champion Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity outcomes across all activities.

Please note, this can be either:

1 x full- time (40hrs per week) position or 2 x part-time (20hrs per week)

The remuneration is $97,831 - $116,867 per annum dependent on skills and experience and will be pro-rated for the part-time opportunity

He kōrero mōu | About you

We are seeking applicants who have:

Essential qualifications and registration:

• PhD in Psychology or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
• Registered Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a current practising certificate.
• Membership of the New Zealand Psychological Society or the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists.

Essential experience and skills:

• Teaching or tutoring experience in clinical psychology (undergraduate and/or postgraduate).
• Demonstrated ability to form culturally safe relationships in practice, teaching, and research settings.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying its principles in all aspects of work.
• Excellent knowledge of and ability to teach Māori or Pacific models of mental health (e.g., Meihana, Te Whare Tapa Whā, Fale Fono)
• Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Sensitivity to and respect for diverse cultures.
