Reporting to the Director of Corrections, the Manager, Health Services is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the delivery of health services across Nunavut’s correctional facilities. The position ensures that all care provided to clients aligns with applicable legislation, territorial policies, professional health standards, and Inuit societal values. Working collaboratively with internal staff and external health partners, the Manager ensures that safe, consistent, and client-centered health services are accessible to all individuals in custody.
The Manager, Health Services leads the implementation and evaluation of health care programs, procedures, and operational standards across multiple correctional sites. The position supervises health staff, including administrative and support roles, providing direction on scheduling, performance evaluation, and professional development. It ensures clinical practices are evidence-based and aligned with scope of practice standards, while coordinating with physicians, specialists, and external providers to support continuity of care. The Manager is also responsible for managing health records, overseeing medical inventory, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance frameworks. The role supports health service planning and contributes to departmental budgeting and contract processes related to clinical services. It provides leadership in responding to incidents, complaints, and investigations, and ensures that outcomes are documented and acted upon. The Manager participates in risk management and continuous improvement initiatives, and promotes accountability through audits and reporting processes that support transparency and service excellence.
Candidates must possess a recognized bachelor’s degree in nursing, plus five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, relevant to the program area including a minimum of one (1) year of managerial/supervisory experience. Applicants must be eligible for licensing with CANNN and provide proof of licensing prior to signing a job offer. Current immunization certification is required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire. A master’s in nursing, health administration, or quality improvement is an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
