About the role

 

  • Lead initiatives to support, develop and uplift Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff across the NSW public education system, and to foster reconciliation throughout the department and with Communities.
  • Actively manage a dedicated team to plan, project manage, deliver (on time and on budget), and report on a range of high priority projects and initiatives, driving strategic impact and positive outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships with Communities, leaders and stakeholders to shape policy and deliver results.

 

The Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Initiatives, project manages and administers a range of high-priority projects and initiatives, such as Truth-telling, the department’s Reconciliation Action Plan, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mentoring programs, and the department’s cultural awareness program, Everyone’s Business.

 

The role is responsible for leading the strategic direction through business planning, coaching and development of a team, and delivery of cyclical and responsive reconciliation and Aboriginal workforce initiatives.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy, upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG, and ensuring quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

 

Essential requirements of the role

  • This position is designated for the employment of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person only.   • A degree in Indigenous studies, social sciences, human resources, public administration, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with legislation and policies related to Aboriginal employment, human rights, and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

At 2pm on Monday 2 March, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory team will host an online Yarn Up (information session) about this role. As a condition of employment, successful candidates not currently employed by the Department must provide a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance number. Renewal is not required after the WWCC expires, as long as you remain in a non-child-related role. Employer obligations only apply while the WWCC is valid.
