Ara Whiwhi Mahi | The Opportunity 

Kaitakawaenga Māori is a 34 plus year service with a rich history and are the Māori face of Inland Revenue. Delivering services in a whānau, hapū and iwi centric way to ensure our Māori customers have the tools to self-manage their tax affairs whether they are an individual, or in business.

In this varied role you will: 

  • Work directly with Māori and non-Māori customers, helping them understand their tax obligations, entitlements and how they can self-manage.
  • Provide customer service across a variety of products both proactively and reactively to improve customer outcomes, 
  • Engage and build relationships with the community, tax professionals and small businesses to ensure compliance.
  • Educate Māori communities, including the delivery of seminars and presentations, to a self-management model using technology 
  • Work in a networked way across IR and use insights gained to develop solutions for customers
  • Bring the voice of the customer to Inland Revenue

 

Mōu | About you 

To be successful in this role you will bring: 

  • Minimum of NCEA Level 3 Te Reo Māori or equivalent.
  • Understanding of and can utilise tīkanga Māori where appropriate.
  • A high level of comfort with whānau, hapū and iwi.
  • Know and understand issues relevant to the Māori community.
  • Enjoy engaging clearly & accurately with people as part of your day-to-day work.
  • The ability to understand and build trust in potentially difficult, sensitive and/or complex situations.
  • The capability to understand and apply legislation and policy.
  • A current full New Zealand driver’s license (essential).
  • Flexibility – available for varied working hours and travel away from home (essential).

Community Compliance provides a front-line service for our customers, improving voluntary compliance through the relationships they foster in our communities and the services we provide. The team’s work includes Tax Agents, Front of House & Kaitakawaenga Māori.
