Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kairuruku - Research Fellow in Kaupapa Māori Health Research to join Te Tātai Hauora o Hine - National Centre for Women’s Health Research Aotearoa on a fixed-term, full-time basis. The position is for 24 months, with the possibility to extend.

The role of the Kairuruku - Research Fellow is to support the delivery of high-quality, kaupapa Māori and equity-focused research. The Kairuruku - Research Fellow will contribute to the design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of a range of kaupapa (projects and platforms). 

Key responsibilities:

• Assist with project management, planning, and coordination, contributing to the timely delivery of agreed milestones for multiple externally funded research projects.
• Contribute to the preparation of reports, manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentation material.
• Support stakeholder engagement and knowledge translation, including wānanga, hui, and dissemination events.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will be a highly motivated and organised individual who will enjoy busy and collaborative work, and who will make positive contributions to the team of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine and Kaupapa Māori research. This position is well suited to an early career Māori researcher who wants to develop their skills while contributing to transformative, whānau-centred health research. 

Key requirements:

Essential

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Māori Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• 2-3 years minimum of research experience (including MA candidature).
• Demonstrated experience in qualitative or mixed methods research.
• Demonstrated experience in kaupapa Māori research.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Strong organisational, communication, and writing skills.
• Full driver’s license and rural driving experience.

Desirable

• Experience working with Māori communities or health providers.
• Knowledge of NVivo or similar tools.
• Ability to kōrero in te reo Māori, or willingness to learn.
