The Intern, Design and Construction is responsible for assisting in the coordination and support of internal capital and external third-party design and construction projects. This includes the review of engineering drawings, tender documents and specifications, document control, documenting technical meetings, and supervising contractors and consultants. The role supports various projects carried out during construction season and collaborates with other CN Engineering departments and external stakeholders.
· Support the coordination of internal and external capital, special capital, and operating expenditure projects
· Assist with oversight of construction activities in the field to ensure that work is being performed in accordance with CN standards
· Audit active construction sites and validate that employees and contractors are observing safe and proper work practices
· Document technical meetings held with consultants and contractors
· Assist in the control of technical documentation for select projects
· Contribute, present, and receive approval for the costing and estimates for projects
· Collaborate with the internal Track, Bridges and Structures, Flagging, Signals and Communication, and all other internal teams to ensure that projects are meeting the established milestones
· Assist in the review of drawings, technical memos, and specifications for there adherence to CN standards
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint)
· Proficient in data and project management
· Strong organization and communication skills
· Ability to travel for field inspections
· Ability to review engineering memos and drawings*
· Knowledge of programs such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Systems Applications and Products (SAP) and Automatic Computer Aided Design (AutoCad)*
· Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)*
· Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
· Valid Driver’s License
*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
